Kalahari Review

This was one of those books that I read almost in one sitting, staying up too late and getting up too early to read it.

There was always something happening and the action was non-stop. The variation of characters also made it entertaining and enjoyable to read, while dealing with genuine teenager and real-life problems that meant there was always something you could relate to. It was fast-paced and a brilliant adventure story, while also educational in a way where you don't even realise you've learnt something new until afterwards.

Kalahari is a young adult sci-fi book by Jessica Khoury, it's set in the Kalahari semi-desert in Botswana, Africa and follows six teenagers who are trying to survive completely stranded and with little resources beyond their own wit. On top of this, they encounter an unnaturally sadistic, seemingly indestructible silver Lion, the secret behind which could be devastating to the rest of the world if not stopped.

The book is set from the perspective of Sarah, a teenager who has lived her whole life in the wilderness, she's had little to no social experience and therefore finds it hard to relate to and communicate with others her age, this makes it difficult for her to interact with the four other teens relying on her to survive. Sarah is also grappling with grief over her mothers' recent death and fear for her father, who is desperately trying to battle his own grief and keep their little family and business together.
