Lauren and Georgia

Lauren challenged me to write stories for each of the things on the "Ten Things That Make Me Happy" post. This is the first one, for music. I hope you like it.

It had been a long day, too long. Every step felt heavier than the last. I was in desperate need of a cup of tea and some Netflix. Walking through one of the more artistic parts of town, I noticed a group gathering outside a corner café. Intrigued I made my way through the crowd, surprisingly no one grumbled as I pushed my way through. When I finally reached the front I saw what had cast its spell on everyone.

An elderly gentleman stood outside the café playing an uplifting melody on a rag-tag violin. For a moment everything stopped. I forgot all about my awful day, I forgot all about the things I had to do. The simple song seemed to take me far away from my stress and worries.

But all to soon I was brought back to reality by a little girl, she pushed past me and went running to drop a handful of silver coins into the mans hat.

Like a spark, they had set off a chain reaction. Soon there was an array of children streaming past to drop their coins in the hat. The man smiled at each one, the joyous tune never faltering. It wasn’t long before a father held out his hand to his daughter, just how a prince might ask a princess for a dance. She held tight on his hand as he awkwardly twirled her around. In a matter of seconds the girl went from being shy and embarrassed to giddy with laughter. Within seconds people dancing surrounded me.

Young and old, the crowd turned into a whirlwind of laughter and bright smiles.

Suddenly the street turned into a carnival; more and more people stopping to join in the fun. Some were merely swaying side to side, others doing intricate spins and turns. Just for a moment everyone forgot to be angry with the world, everyone let go and just took a break from reality.

I began to cry. I began to cry for the happiness a group of strangers had found in a world full of hate and anger.

And as I walked away from the still dancing crowd I felt just a little bit lighter.
