Renegades Review

Lauren and Georgia

By Lauren

Renegades was recommended to me at a YA book club meeting at Paperchain bookstore. I got it, and since then it has been my number one suggestion every time someone has asked me for a good book to read. Georgia's hooked, my brother's hooked, I'm hooked. It is honestly such a good book.

Renegades, by Marissa Meyer, is a trilogy set in a world where superheroes - "prodigies" - make up a good portion of the population. It follows Nova, a Villain who aims to bring down the Renegades from the inside, and Adrian, the adoptive son of the two most powerful Renegades... the ones Nova plans to assassinate.

With the same fast pace as Sci-fi, but the broader appeal of dystopian/superhero/fantasy, Renegades has something for everyone. From complex social issues to teenage melodrama, Renegades has a perfect blend of characters ranging from the adorably righteous to the morally grey to those who are downright evil. The writing is witty and the characters are strong, there is no lack of diversity and the plot is fairly unpredictable and well thought-out.

The third and final book in the series - Supernova - came out not that long ago, and I can't wait to read it. Georgia has already bought and started it, and keeps trying to give me spoilers. I really recommend this trilogy; you won't regret it. With Christmas coming up, I'd suggest putting it on your wish-list.
