The Colours of Madeleine Review

This series was so different to anything I'd ever read before, the writing style was strange and quirky, with little details added to make the characters and their lives seem so much more real.

The Colours of Madeleine is a trilogy by Jaclyn Moriarty. It's about a girl - Madeleine - living in England, and her correspondence with Elliot Baranski - who lives in Cello - through a "crack" in a parking meter.

Cello is another world of living colour storms and fairies in glass bottles. It is connected to our world by "cracks" like the one Elliot and Madeleine use to send letters to each other.

At first, I was sceptical, but I stuck with it and found it was really fun to read. I was surprised by how complicated the plot was, with twists I never would have seen coming and an unexpected attention to science and history for a predominantly fantasy novel.
